I’m loving the return of velvet for fall. I seem to be all about texture in the clothes I purchase lately, from this gorgeous white lace crochet top from Chic Wish to these AG velvet legging jeans (similar here). So, why not pair them together?! I wore this bohemian inspired look for my birthday last night out for dinner with friends.
Blouse: Chic Wish (similar here and here) // Jeans: AG Jeans Velvet Legging (similar here) // Pumps: Christian Louboutin (similar here and they come in a ton of colors plus a pretty floral pattern) // Clutch: YSL (similar here) // Sunglasses: Warby Parker // Earrings: JoJo Loves you – Bling
Velvet Legging Jeans
There’s something about the navy color of these velvet legging jeans that screams regal. If you’ve been reading and following me for the last few months (or seen my Instagram feed), you’re in the loop on how much I love neutrals. But, I am always trying to work in great, rich colors. For Fall, I love mixing navy with grey, white and nude.
What I love about dressing with textures, from velvet to brocade (like this look), lace, or crochet, is that you can literally feel like you’re from a different era. This white crochet blouse from Chic Wish created a Victorian look from the 1800’s with it’s high neck, sharp shoulders, and sheer details. Every one of my girlfriends complimented me on it at dinner last night! That’s how you know it’s a keeper!
Sizing Tips when Buying Textured Clothing
The potential downside to dressing in textures is that I often find you need to size up. Don’t worry about that. Different designers and brands follow different sizing charts. To get the right fit, buying a bigger size makes sense. I bought a larger size in both the blouse and leggings from this post. Ultimately, it’s just a number. I want the item to look clean and fit well. If I’m stuffed into it – it’s not going to be cute.
When it comes to shopping and style, I favor a tailored fit that keeps my look feminine and classic. I tend to lean towards silks and poly-blend fabrics that have some stretch to them. The key is to find what works for your body. It’s easy to forget when we’re looking at celebrities that many items are custom-made and/or tailored to perfection for them.
Pieces that are lace and crochet can look stunning in photos. Plan to wear them for a glam night out with the girls or a date night with your someone special. I might pair my lace blouse with a red midi skirt for Christmas or wear the velvet leggings with an oversized turtleneck sweater by Lou & Grey to run errands.
I’m currently coveting this beautiful Frame Le Velvet Blazer, also in a velvet texture that’s so chic. With my birthday gifts combined, it will be my splurge for turning 33!
