A few months ago, I watched as gorgeous gowns made their way down the runways at New York Fashion Week and a key trend that stood out was the continual presence of a mustard yellow dress in each collection. Though I’ve never been overwhelmingly drawn to the color yellow, I’m absolutely making an exception for this stunning marigold inclination that designers are sending our way. How to Style a Mustard Yellow Dress
Hello lovelies! Firstly, I’m so sorry this post has been a bit delayed. This gorgeous marigold dress made its debut on my Instagram while we were on our honeymoon in Bora Bora and it got a great response! But, between working on holiday content and with things super busy at work, I just didn’t get to posting much this week.
After wearing this number to an indescribable dinner at La Villa Mahana, I can now make a handful of recommendations on complimentary colors and how to style a mustard yellow dress. For starters, burgundy makes for a beautiful pairing. These velvet pumps were a perfect accessory. They also required NO BREAKING IN and are more comfortable than most pairs of shoes that I own. While burgundy pairs well with this goldenrod color, so would navy or forest green. Really, any jewel tone will work with the color. I love the idea of draping this green leather Blank NYC jacket (a STEAL at $98!) over my shoulders in this look.
Shockingly, my exact dress from Zara is still available. However, if long sleeves aren’t your favorite, this maxi dress would be my next pick, followed by this off the shoulder option or this wrap style dress from Revolve.
Our Dinner at La Villa Mahana
I mentioned the restaurant above that we ate at the night I wore this dress and it absolutely warrants some additional details. If you find yourself in Bora Bora, La Villa Mahana is a must. This site does a really good job of presenting the prefixed menu options. You need a reservation in advance. There’s a chance you could still get in if you didn’t make one, but I wouldn’t risk it. Also, while it looks so pretty outside, I suggest you sit inside. It can be muggy at night and the bugs aren’t so great.
The meal lasts about an hour and a half total over 5 courses which are all better than the next. We started with the seared tuna salad which has a vanilla oil dressing that I almost licked from the bowl, followed by the most delicious mahi with a sweet plantain on top and then a filet with truffle gnocchi (YUM!) as the main course. As if that wasn’t gluttonous enough, we had a banana flambee dessert and a handful of macarons. Since Matt and I both celebrated our birthday’s on our trip – we considered this the main celebration.
