I can hardly believe it’s already been a month since the start of our unbelievable trip to Greece and today I’m so excited to share the story of our unforgettable Santorini engagement. Matt planned it all in advance, unbeknownst to me. I never was the girl to daydream about my Prince Charming, but he’s certainly mine. It was a fairytale come true.
On our third night in Santorini, Matt took me to the ancient village of Megalochori to ask me to be his forever. He lead me down a rocky dirt path on the Caldera side over by Plaka Beach. After a little bit of walking, the dirt path turned into old cobblestone steps. I thought I was going to tumble down! Then, we rounded the corner and a beautiful, small church came into view.
The Chapel of Agios Nikolaos is literally built into the cliffside of the village. I couldn’t stop smiling (and crying) as Matt got down on one knee and put a gorgeous cushion cut diamond onto my finger. I was trying to focus on his well-planned speech that was so sweet. Of course, the emotion of it all got to me and I forgot everything! But, he had set up his phone to record it!
He thought of everything. He arranged to take pictures, brought a bottle of wine and made reservations at a delicious little restaurant just down the street for us to enjoy afterward. It was a perfectly picturesque Santorini engagement under the church bells as the sun set.
Matt and I had been talking about our future and started looking at rings just after our one-year anniversary. So, I can’t say that I was completely surprised when he proposed. Yet, somehow the tears and the smiles lasted for days after those moments at the church.
I had gotten all dressed up for the night in this gorgeous Elizabeth and James bell sleeve dress and Zara lace up flats. Unfortunately, the lace-up flats were a casualty from the night! The cobblestone sort of destroyed them. So, I bought a replacement pair when we got back. They just sold out (again), but these are really similar, and I also love the wine color of these Nine West beauties. I wore a few pretty rings from Park Lane Jewelry, like the Velocity ring, which is my favorite.
With a week left in the trip, I was on cloud nine for most of it.
Now comes the fun part – planning the wedding! I’d love to hear all of your tips and recommendations! Leave me a comment below.
