Styling a metallic midi skirt may sound like a challenge, but in reality they’re surprising versatile. Aside from being absolutely perfect for date nights or fabulous holiday parties, you can dress them down easily for day-to-day as well. It’s no shock that they have skyrocketed in popularity after Gucci sent a stunning gold number down the runway. Now, everyone from Express to Banana Republic and other retailers are carrying a similar (but affordable) statement piece.
How to Wear Metallic Midi Skirt
We’re just a week away from the start of NYFW and I’m feeling as excited as I look twirling in my metallic midi skirt in the picture above! Last season provided an opportunity to meet a myriad of fellow bloggers through StyleCollective and that created this amazing support group I’m honored to be a part of. It was also an eye opening experience (and SO comforting) seeing that we all go through the same ups and downs of trying to build our brands and blogs while having full-time jobs, families and other obligations.
So, now I’m in the midst of planning out my outfits for all the shows and thinking that I need to re-wear this outfit. Of course, it’s looking like it’s going to be in the 30’s during the day (brrrr!!!). As a result, I’ll have to swap my suede heels for some booties and layer my grey sweater with a heavier coat. But, I think it will be a chic look!

Styling a Metallic Midi Skirt
One of my style resolutions this year I talked about in my New Year’s post is to be less focused on trends and more true to my own fashion choices. Of all the goals I listed, it’s the one that I’m sticking to the most so far. My last post on closet essentials is a great first example. This post is another case of where I’m “doing me”. As I’ve mentioned before, my days of mini skirts are over (Seriously, I ordered a dress for NY this week and when it got here it was just too short. So, it had to go). And, while I like a maxi dress, I’m really more of a midi skirt kinda girl. So, how have I been styling metallic skirts lately? They’re surprisingly versatile!
My favorite way to style this metallic midi skirt is with a mock neck sweater (this one’s under $60!). There’s something about the longer length of a tunic that makes the look softer, office appropriate, but also so chic. Since this wasn’t a bright gold color, muted greys and nudes went perfectly with the outfit.
Secondly, I’d love to wear this with a classic white button up shirt and cropped sweater (love the burgundy color on this one) too. The chunky texture of this sweater with some of the button up shirt peeking out could be really cute all layered together.
Lastly, another perfect way to style your metallic pleated midi skirt for holiday parties is with a classic bodysuit like this one by Commando. Throw on a sequin blazer or faux fur shawl and you’re party ready!
