Ahhh, the laundry room. A place where all the dirty clothes of the day get discarded and hands get washed endlessly as you come in the door. For the first few years we lived here, ours was mostly neglected. Don’t get me wrong, we used it. And, it wasn’t impractical by any means. But, it certainly wasn’t an area I loved in our home. That is, until we updated it. Sharing all our laundry room decor ideas in today’s home decor post!
Early last year we had an issue with one of our walls that led us to rip out our cabinets in the laundry room. While it wasn’t my first choice, we took the opportunity to refresh our laundry room decor to be more in line with the rest of the house, shaker cabinets included! From adding chic touches like the “So Fresh And” and “So Clean Clean” art prints to the gold and acrylic cabinet pulls and hexagon backsplash, our fun laundry space came together.

Laundry Room Decor Ideas
Whether you have a big or small laundry room, each of the ideas I’m sharing here can apply to your laundry space. Ultimately, your budget will largely dictate what kind of changes you make (i.e. changing the layout or simply making it more functional). But, just a few adjustments or additions can make the room a place you love in your home! Below are all of the laundry room decor ideas we used to make laundry day less stressful.
Hang Framed Artwork
Adding art to your laundry room is an easy way to make the room more fun! When I saw these “So Fresh And” and “So Clean Clean” digital prints on Pinterest, they immediately made me laugh. At under $10, they’re a steal! From there you can grab standard size frames at places like Michael’s or Target. Most of the art in our home has been framed at Framebridge. So, with just a few clicks, they were off to be printed in custom frames!
Another idea is to grab some signs you can hang. These Wash, Dry, and Fold signs are very cute.
Install a Chic Backsplash
Then, to add some “glam” to the room you can install a chic backsplash. To go with our gold and black and white theme, we scoured the tile selection at Floor and Decor. I love the dimension this hexagon tile adds to the space. Lucky for me, Matt rented a saw at Lowe’s and went to work (he’s so handy!). If this is over your heard or out of your budget, try this peel and stick option from Amazon.
Update the Cabinets
Next, the project that started it all for us – updating our cabinets! For a less expensive option, you can certainly just paint or change your cabinet doors. Or, you can go with open shelving! For our interior design these affordable shaker-style cabinets from Lowe’s are similar to those in our kitchen and they make the space more modern. Plus, the taller overhead cabinets provide additional storage too. While I like open shelves, they can get messy quickly. Be sure to keep that in mind when it comes to your design.
Mix your Hardware and Update Cabinet Pulls
Nowadays, mixing hardware in your home decor, even within the same room, is acceptable. The key is to stick to just two finishes, if possible. We put simple gold knobs on our cabinet doors and these stunning gold and acrylic pulls on our drawers. The Home Depot has a great selection.
One area we splurged with hardware was the gold Brizo Litze faucet. Since our laundry room is off our garage, Matt wanted a nice faucet he could be rough with since he’s always working in the hard and then washing his hands in that room. All I said was – it has to be gold! Our sink is stainless steel, but the drain strainer is gold too! Again, we always need a bit of glam in each room.
Add New Countertops
If you decide to get new cabinets, getting a countertop doesn’t have to break the bank. My mom recommended Half Price Countertops to us where we found a remnant quartz stone that was big enough for our space. That’s right! This store specifically helps you save because they also have their own fabrication shop. But, they also sell the remnant portions of the bigger slabs. Before buying a pre-fab option from The Home Depot or Lowe’s check local options by you to see if they offer the remnant pieces. You’ll often find better options there that can elevate your laundry space.
If you have a small laundry room, consider adding a wall-mount drying rack to maximize your counter space. We use ours to store our iron and then put our ironing board underneath. There’s plenty of room to hang multiple items that you want to air dry.
Other Laundry Room Decor Ideas
There are also some smaller details you can add to update the look and feel. First, add a marble paper towel holder like this one from Target next to the sink. Or, grab another cute sign to put next to your washer and dryer.
Another fabulous way to update your space is to change the tile floors. Ideally, I would use something like this mosaic tile that I found on Instagram at the Cement Tile Shop. But, the tile in our living spaces is all the same. So, we decided not to change it right now. Instead, I’ll hopefully use that tile in a bathroom reno next year.
Finally, add a throw rug in the space. Since we don’t have kids yet, I put this sheepskin rug down (and honestly, it was more for the pictures!). But, that won’t be practical for families! Get something that you can easily wash.
Laundry Room Storage Containers
Inside our cabinets I hide away things like reusable laundry bags, extra laundry detergent and dryer cleaner. But, I also use a few other storage containers in the room to organize miscellaneous items.
Laundry Basket
Want a clean space? Make it a habit to throw everything that needs to be cleaned in a laundry basket. The options are endless depending on how many people live in your home. For example, there are also baskets with two or three separated bins for whites and darks.
Wicker Baskets
I’m a minimalist at heart, but I couldn’t resist adding at least one wicker basket on our counter for the items I reach for most. Next to the washer I store my favorites from The Laundress, a plant-based line of cleaning products. If you’re interested in trying them, I suggest this kit. We also use this detergent on our sheets (it’s used in a lot of luxury hotels). I’m frequently adding it to my cart on Shopbop because it’s sold there as well.
With any home decor update, it’s important to remember to stick to your budget and set your priorities. While some renovations may be out of your reach, you can easily refresh your space and make an impact using my laundry room decor ideas here.
For example, in my dream world we would have installed a farmhouse sink. But, that wasn’t in the cards! Both countertop fabrication and installation would be more challenging (not to mention cabinet adjustments needed). Plus, a deep, stainless steel sink made more sense overall.
At the end of the day, your laundry room doesn’t have to sacrifice function or beauty! Through one or all of these, you can make the space a bit more exciting.
