Like the namesake of this blog infers, I love a little glam in my life – especially when it comes to home decor. Over the last few years we updated some of our bedding and bedroom furniture (full details in this post). But, it was missing those personal touches that really bring a room together. And, of all the rooms in your home, the master bedroom should be your oasis! So, we’ve made a few more updates to warm up the space and make it more boho chic. In today’s post I’m sharing a handful of tips for how to glam up your room. From layering your rugs to adding luxe curtains and organizing and accessorizing, most tricks work whether it’s your bedroom or your living room.
Glam means different things to different people. For example, some people think hollywood glam with lots of over-the-top laquer finishes and vibrant colors. Since I’m more of a neutral gal myself, my kind of glam is more boho chic. Think metallic details, mirrored furniture and fun statement pieces like a great piece of organic art. But, it doesn’t have to break the bank. You don’t need to run out and buy all new furniture! Accent what you already down by adding decorative pieces like picture frames, vases, throw pillows and more.

How To Glam Up Your Room
The best thing about home decor these days is that there is so much inspiration out there that it doesn’t take an interior designer to help create your perfect space. Retailers like Z Gallerie, Pottery Barn and others feature photos from how each item looks in the homes of real people. So, you can picture how it might look in yours.
Invest in a Tufted Bed
Starting with the most expensive option for how to glam up your room, my first tip is to invest in a tufted bed. The one in our room is the eastern king size Jameson bed from Z Gallerie (we shop there a lot). If you’re worried it will go out of style – don’t. Tufted beds (or headboards) are classic and have undeniable style that’s been used for centuries to glam up a room.
With the nailheads along the trim and it’s velvet fabric, our bed is luxe and soft at the same time. The pearl color is the perfect base for the room to build on. From there you can add other neutral tones like taupe or grey to get the same boho vibe we have.
Then, you’ll want to add some luxe bedding. I wrote a full blog post about ours here.
Remember, your bed is typically the centerpiece of your bedroom. So, be sure to get something you love!
Decorate with Mirrored Bedroom Furniture
Whether it’s your dresser or your side tables, mirrored furniture can make your space brighter and bigger. While it works for any room, it’s particularly good for small spaces! Every room needs a bit of bling!
Our two dressers only have mirrored drawer fronts. So, they get the similar light-reflecting effect as a piece like this. It’s toned down, but just as chic.
The only downside to mirrored furniture is it can be a bit tough to keep clean! You may notice fingerprints here and there. But, that’s nothing some glass cleaner can’t fix.
Layer your Rugs
The next tip for how to glam up your room is to layer your rugs. I’m obsessed with the two rugs we have in our master bedroom, especially this one from Loloi. I love the abstract print, the colors and how soft it is! With it’s taupe, gray and blue colors, it gave our otherwise neutral space some depth.
Also, if you have tile or wood floors adding a rug will warm up the room. When you get out of bed in the morning, it’s so nice to step onto a soft and plush rug! Layering this faux fur rug on my side gave us additional texture too. I’ve used these sheepskin rugs in three rooms in our house now. The one in our bedroom is actually from Costco and a steal at $99! But, they’re always available on sites like One Kings Lane and Wayfair.
When you layer your rugs you want to be sure they’re different sizes (and possibly shapes too). That’s why the faux fur rug works so well with the standard rectangle cut of the larger rug underneath the furniture. It’s an accent while the bigger rug is the statement piece.
After scouring pages and pages of rugs, I’m linking all of my favorites below. I’m dying to use the antelope rug from Stark Studios somewhere in our house!
Bring in Some Extra Seating
There is something so glamorous about having a separate space within your bedroom to unwind after the day. Ideally we’d have enough room for these amazing boucle chairs. I can just picture Matt and I here with a delicious glass of wine! But, since our room wasn’t deep enough we went with this french upholstered bench instead. It’s the perfect area to lay out your outfit for the day or to use while getting dressed. I love that it bring in a Parisian vibe since I’m a bit of a Francophile!
If you have the space, adding a loveseat at the end of the bed is another way to make your room more glam. This is another area where you can use tufted furniture for added elegance if your bed doesn’t have those details.
Hang Luxe Curtains
The element that can bring your whole room together is hanging luxe curtains. They draw your eye upwards and can help your ceilings look taller. Since we hung these linen cotton curtains two weeks ago, the overall aesthetic has completely changed. Sure, they’re great for privacy and for helping to cool your room during the day (and there is lots of value in that). But, they’re the ultimate finishing touch for adding some glam.
But, pricing for curtains is all over the board. The panels we got from Pottery Barn are sort of the middle of the road with these curtains from Amazon being lower priced and these belgian linen panels from Restoration Hardware being on the high end (and custom being on the very far end of the spectrum!).
Since we already have other gold touches throughout the room, we used the cast iron curtain rods and finials. But, you can dial up the glam feel with the same hardware in gold.
No matter where you get your curtains, if you pick a luxurious fabric they can drastically update the way the room feels.
Organize and Accessorize
The most affordable option for how to glam up your room is through accessories and other decorative accents. A few of my favorite places to find chic options are HomeGoods, Target, West Elm, and Z Gallerie.
For the boho chic style of our room, you’ll want to get a handful of metallic picture frames. We have these in several sizes and they range from $16.95 – $24.95. Now, I’m eyeing this one that’s made of marble and has a gold foil border. And, I’d still like to add a few decorative objects like this and this.
Another way to accent your space is to organize and display your jewelry. I have this jewelry box by Kendra Scott. But, it’s quite pricey (wait until one of their 20% OFF sales!). Then, I also have this acrylic bracelet stand that’s under $20.
We also got this affordable wood vase and filled it with pampas grass for an organic feel.
For a bigger statement piece, my two favorite glam details in our room are our peacock mirror (identical here) and piece of artwork that uses shells. Keep an eye out for things like this at HomeGoods! You can find the best things there and they won’t break the bank.
There are lots of ways to glam up your room. From investing in new bedroom furniture like a tufted bed to hanging luxe curtains or layering your rugs, classic glam decor can be high-impact without being overstated. By playing with texture and pattern you can add levels of depth to your space that truly make it your personal oasis.
