Happy Monday lovelies! Today I’m finally getting around to sharing more details from our honeymoon in New Zealand. We were fortunate enough to stay at some gorgeous properties, including The Boatshed boutique hotel, which was recommended by our travel agent. After a week of driving around the South Island and being on the go, we made sure to end our trip by relaxing for two days on Waiheke Island. In this post I’m sharing my review of The Boatshed and be sure to check out details on things to do in Waiheke Island here.

Waiheke Island – Where to Stay
If you’ve been a longtime reader, then you know we use a fabulous travel agent to plan our vacations.
Josh at ProTravel helped plan our trip to Greece in 2015 and he’s never failed to help us have once in a lifetime experiences. I get into more details in my next post on our Waiheke Island itinerary, but I first I want to give you my review of The Boatshed boutique hotel that stole my heart.
The team at ProTravel only recommended one place to stay in Waiheke Island and it was The Boatshed. But, as a self-described Type A personality, one option wasn’t quite enough for me. So, of course I did my own research too! Ultimately, I realized quickly that The Boatshed was the best place on the island to stay for many reasons. But, with only 5 guest suites that are cottage-style, I’m including our second pick here too in case it’s out of capacity.
- The Boatshed – In my opinion, this boutique hotel is both charming and unique. We stayed in one of the boatshed rooms that gives you a full panoramic view of Little Oneroa Beach.
- Delamore Lodge – This 5-Star hotel is also small with only 6 rooms. The stunning pool area is the most alluring feature with its waterfall edge and view of Auckland’s Hauraki Gulf.
The Boatshed Boutique Hotel
So, what made us pick The Boatshed? There are a myriad of reasons we selected the luxury accommodation for the last few nights of our honeymoon.
Firstly, the staff make you feel like family. I’ve seen companies write that on their website, but this group truly knows exceptional service. From the manager of the hotel, Jonathan, to the uber-talented chef and the others that make your stay comfortable – they were all extraordinary.
Furthermore, the spacious rooms that are all nautical-themed pulled me in. They are SO cute (see picture above)! It was like having our own little beach house. Upon check-in, you’re welcomed with some yummy treats in the cottage and some after-dinner port, if you’re so inclined.
The Restaurant at The Boatshed
Lastly, one thing I didn’t expect was the mouthwatering food! Arguably, the best meal we had on Waiheke Island was at The Boatshed. It’s a price-fixed menu where they bring out various canapes to start, like asparagus with chicken liver pate (something I never thought I’d try but absolutely loved) and lamb with eggplant and hummus. The main course was a chicken dish with mozzarella and ratatouille vegetables. Matt’s normally a picky eater and he was asking for seconds! Regardless of where you sit, there’s a beautiful view of the water where you can watch the sunset. With my glass of Cable Bay sauvignon blanc, I was a happy lady. Their breakfast doesn’t disappoint either (picture below). I keep saying that I’ll recreate the goat cheese, Serrano ham and asparagus omelette that the chef prepared! It’s not pictured because I ate it too fast!
To repeat – if you’re planning a trip to Waiheke Island, the Boatshed boutique hotel is where you want to stay, hands down. Should you have any questions, don’t hesitate to comment below or email me directly.
