We can all agree that a good hair day normally leads to a great day overall. But, then how do you ensure you have more good hair days than bad ones?! For me, it includes using Aveda hair care products. At any given time I have at least five different shampoos on my shower window sill (which absolutely kills my husband). But, I’m a believer in switching up your products and in testing out lots until you find ones that work the best for your hair type. Aveda rises to the top of that list with a few of their product lines (spoiler – the Botanical Repair collection is my fav). So, I thought a full Aveda shampoo review was necessary not just because they’re better than other brands (but IMO in many cases they are).
But, finding the perfect shampoo that suits your needs and hair type is like the holy grail for women. So, I had to share the good news. Full disclaimer – Aveda has sent me product many times. But, I regularly purchase it on my own as a loyal follower and lover of their brand.

Best Aveda Shampoos
Aveda Botanical Repair Strengthening Shampoo
Every time I try a new Aveda shampoo I think, this is my favorite. But, I can say with certainty that the Botanical Repair Strengthening shampoo is the bottle I reach for the most (you can also find it at Nordstrom and on Amazon). This shampoo makes my hair feel healthy. Now, I don’t have overly damaged hair. But, having recently had a baby I’ve got all sort of hormone changes (and spit up) going on. This removes build-up and excess sebum that may be making your hair look oily (like me). The scent is light with a floral tone to it. The formula is also also silicone-free and plant-based. This Aveda shampoo works for all hair types. To emphasize how much I love this shampoo, I like to buy the 33.8 ounce size (with the pump top) because it’s that good.
Aveda Rosemary Mint Purifying Shampoo
While the Botanical Repair is my fav shampoo, the Rosemary Mint Purifying shampoo is the Aveda product I’ve used the longest. You can see my original review here. Personal opinion, of course, but this stuff is like magic. To me, this shampoo is like pressing a re-set button on my hair. It gets rid of any junk and buildup that’s weighing it down. Its 97% naturally derived and also includes white vinegar to purify your hair. The scent is heavenly – it has rosemary, peppermint and spearmint which are really energizing and fresh. This shampoo has incredible reviews and you will know why once you try it. It’s also available at Nordstrom, Target, and QVC.
I want to be sure to flag here that this is step one for me when using this product. Since I clarify my hair with this, I then go in afterward with the Botanical Repair shampoo (followed by conditioner). I use this 1-2x per week, depending on if I’ve used a bunch of hair spray or dry shampoo or maybe worked out a lot. This combo is honestly the best and gives me that “just went to the salon” feel.
Aveda Cherry Almond Softening Shampoo
I first tried the Aveda Cherry Almond Softening shampoo back in 2019 and have used it off and on since. This is the shampoo that for me seems to tame the most flyaways since it smooths your hair cuticles. The formula doesn’t feel heavy on your hair, but be sure not to overuse the product! A little dollop goes a long way. Like other Aveda shampoos, this one is 97% naturally derived. It’s good to use for all hair types, but especially for long hair. The scent is more fruity! It is infused with a blend of natural ingredients, including cherry blossom extract and sweet almond oil which gives it a sweet smell.
You can also grab this at Nordstrom or QVC.
How To Use Aveda Shampoo
Use the Right Amount of Shampoo
Perhaps this goes without saying, but it’s important to use the right amount of product. How much is too much? Start small (about the size of a quarter). Depending on your hair length, you may want to add more. You should be able to work up a good lather from root to tip.
How Often Should you Wash your Hair?
This is such a personal question to me. I have friends that wash their hair 1-2 times a week and it works for them. Personally, I need to wash my hair every other day. You can use the Botanical Repair or Cherry Almond shampoos everyday. But, I’d use the Rosemary Mint purifying shampoo once or twice a week at most.
Where To Buy Aveda Shampoo
All of Aveda’s hair care products are available on their website. But, you can also find them at other retailers like Nordstrom (I love to buy here since I get my points!), Target online and QVC. Their shampoo is often on sale at QVC or available in bundles where you can save money!
