I’m normally a dress kind of girl. They’re romantic and feminine and make me feel like me. But, when I’m in the office or heading to meetings, there’s a whole other side of me that wants to borrow from the boys. This plaid power suit definitely has a masculine feel to it, with it’s double breasted cut and tailored lines. But, paired with a classic black bodysuit from Hanky Panky, it emanates confidence and professionalism. And, it’s on point for Fall.

Borrowing from the Boys – Plaid Power Suit
Just a few short weeks ago, I first professed my love for a great plaid blazer in this post. But, what I didn’t realize at the time is that a plaid power suit is THAT MUCH BETTER! This stunning set arrived just after NYFW, and I couldn’t open the package quick enough.
Sure – a power suit in the 80’s would’ve meant sharp shoulders, an oversized fit and likely reminded you of the movie Wall Street. But, don’t let that persuade you from revisiting today’s version which is sleeker and more tailored. While you could opt for a solid color, a pattern is simply more fun. And, this year’s pattern is plaid.
There are so many variations of it on the racks right now, but this grey version is a classic. Personally, I think bodysuit looks best underneath. I can’t say enough good things about this one from Hanky Panky. It is light as a feather and so flattering. For a sexier look you could style it with a lace-trimmed cami. Or, when it’s colder I’ll likely grab one of these cashmere turtlenecks.
Don’t let this plaid power suit, or any suit for that matter, overwhelm you. One of the best career tips I’ve always followed is you should dress for the job you want, not the job you have. I may have been overdressed a time or two, but I have never regretted it. Be bold!
