There comes a point in every pregnancy when the bump “pops” and it’s time to embrace maternity dresses. The truth is, once that happens you’ll realize how much more comfortable and easy-to-wear they are regardless of if you’re lounging, working, or on-the-go. When you hit this point in your pregnancy depends on so many variables – whether it’s your first baby, how active you are, how fast your baby grows, and more. Know that it’s not the same for everyone! I gained 10 pounds one month and 3 the next. Once I embraced my pregnancy style I quickly found that maternity midi dresses are my absolute favorite. They give your look a more feminine touch, can show off your bump, and you can wear them anytime and anywhere. I’m dedicating this post to share a round up of maternity midi dresses that are comfortable, functional, and stylish at the same time.
15 Maternity Midi Dresses
Let me back up for a second. Maternity dresses come in different styles and lengths, including mini and maxi dresses. You may find that a certain length maternity dress is best for you based on comfort and functionality. As the bump gets bigger, I found myself veering away from mini dresses and more towards midi and maxi length! I love the lightweight material on this dress for summer. You can easily transition it to fall with booties and a denim jacket or leather jacket. Below are some of my favorite maternity midi dresses and how I styled them, as well as additional dress options! Retailers like Target have amazing affordable options and I personally love Pink Blush Maternity and Hatch!

Pink Blush Maternity Puff Sleeve Dress
I love a puff sleeve anytime, so naturally this puff sleeve dress has a regular place in my maternity style. It’s made of 100% cotton and is so easy to wash and wear. The fabric is lined. But, the bottom is slightly sheer which makes it more fun, in my opinion! The top is also smocked, so it grows with you easily. I’m wearing my normal size medium! This works with flats, sandals or booties so you can transition it between seasons depending on when you’re pregnant.
Pink Blush Maternity Ruched One Shoulder Maternity Dress
Let’s put this in the “most excited to wear after pregnancy” superlative because this ruched dress is absolutely gorgeous with a bump and without. Although more fancy, there are plenty of occasions to wear this dress. It’s perfect for your baby shower. Or, it makes an excellent maternity wedding guest dress. And, it’s great for those date nights before baby comes! Made from modal and spandex, it’s super soft to the touch and has the perfect amount of stretch as your body grows. It comes in 5 colors and I sized up per the websites recommendation (to a large). Linking a few other fitted maternity midi dresses below that are more casual too!
Pink Blush Maternity Smocked Fitted Maternity Dress
Even when not pregnant, I love a smocked dress (remember this one?). But, during pregnancy they’re just so flattering. The smocked fitted body of this dress will hug your curves in the best way and comes in a number of prints and colors. Plus, the ruffle details on the layers make it so feminine. Then, the sleeves are also adjustable which helps get the perfect fit. Take your normal size in this dress! I’m wearing a medium.
Pink Blush Maternity Floral Smocked Tiered Dress
One of my most worn maternity pieces, this floral tiered dress has my heart! Like I mentioned above, it’s super lightweight and the smocked bust helps add shape when you might feel out of sorts with your body and like you don’t have any definition in the waist. The length grazes you about mid-calf, the perfect midi dress. The best part is that there are pockets! There are a handful of other similar dresses I love like this one and this one, also at affordable price points! Since the tops are smocked, I recommend you buy your normal size.
How To Style Midi Dresses
When you’re pregnant can heavily influence how to style midi dresses with a bump! My bump style was mostly in the spring and summer. So, I didn’t have to worry about coats and tights or boots. But, dressing the bump can be cute no matter what season it is.
Spring Midi Dress Outfit Ideas
Spring is by far the easiest season to dress for when you’re pregnant because it calls for lots of dresses! You can go with or without a jacket and throw on your favorite pair of heels with a basket bag and be set!
Summer Midi Dress Outfit Ideas
I’d argue that summer is the worst time to be pregnant, especially in your third trimester, because of the heat! Good maternity shorts are very hard to find. So, again it’s a great time to wear maternity dresses. Have fun with your accessories! While I was in my 2nd trimester at this time, I was still wearing a lot of neutral heels or easy flat sandals and grabbing my favorite bag because I was very much adjusting to my new body!
Fall Midi Dress Outfit Ideas
Fall is by far the best time to style your bump! You can still be comfortable in your midi dresses but easily layer them with your favorite sweater to create the illusion of a top and skirt. Or, you can throw on a jacket for the chilly days. During my pregnancy I’ve been reaching for this cashmere cardigan (it’s a splurge, but sooooo soft) and think it would be perfect for fall with dresses. Any of those outfits call for a pair of your go-to booties (I love this pair).
Since I’ll be in my final weeks as fall starts, I can confirm I’ll be wearing a ton of sneakers! The Veja V-10’s are my go-to and I have a full review here. Luckily I haven’t had much swelling. But, reaching your feet gets tough! So, try something with velcro like these.
Winter Midi Dress Outfit Ideas
Just like fall is the best time to style the bump, I think winter is the easiest time to be pregnant. You can wear more oversized pieces! Sweater dresses are a great option (obsessed with this one and this one is only $50) when you want to feel more feminine, but also be comfy. Wearing a midi dress with a great pair of boots (this pair is so chic) can instantly elevate your bump style. Then, throw on your favorite coat and a pair of sheer tights, some gloves and a beanie (I have this one in multiple colors) to stay warm. This look is perfect for a holiday party or on a holiday itself like Thanksgiving, Christmas or Hanukkah.
Clearly you can see I’m obsessed with maternity midi dresses! When your bump gets bigger, you don’t want to worry about dresses being too short. The midi length is universally flattering and there are countless ways to style them, including for formal events.
