As a parent, you’re always worrying about your child. How they eat. How they sleep. Also, how they play. Are they developing at the right pace? It’s a question you will frequently ask yourself! So, having age-appropriate toys they can play with is important. You’ll want to pick toys that help with their development and growth that are also made with safety in mind. But, you don’t need a ton of toys. Having just a handful or two is perfectly fine. So, today I’m sharing a roundup of the 10 best baby toys 0-6 months. Everett tested. Everett approved!

10 Best Baby Toys 0-6 Months
There are countless baby toys that you can buy from a variety of retailers and specialty stores. If you can, try to register for some on your registry to receive at your baby shower. Many of ours have been purchased on Amazon because of their ability to deliver same-day or 2-day with Prime. Always keep in mind that smaller items can be choking hazards for babies. So, be sure to look at the age recommendation of any toy you purchase.
Fisher Price Deluxe Kick & Play Piano Gym
At the very top of our list and hands down the best baby toy you can get is the Fisher Price Deluxe Kick & Play Piano Gym. I promise this will be the best $35 you’ll spend! Everett would spend hours laying on the mat kicking the piano with his feet and reaching up towards the toys until he was able to sit up. Then, once your baby is sitting, you can move the hanging toys and adjust the piano so they can play it with their hands. With the different dangling animals and light up keys and sounds, it’s easily the toy he has spent the most time with during 0-6 months.
Baby Einstein Glow & Discover Light Bar Musical Activity Station
Once your baby can hold his head up, this Baby Einstein light up toy will be a huge hit. It’s perfect for tummy time and has three different modes with colors, animals and songs that truly keep them entertained. Everett still plays with his, spinning the center wheel over and over again!
Board Books
Another favorite toy in our house are board books. They’re easy to hold and baby will be able to flip the pages within at 4-5 months. We have a bunch that we read regularly, including Barnyard Dance, Llama Llama Red Pajama, Hello Baby Animals (great for contrast), Little Blue Truck and I Love You this Much. Get a full list of our favorites in this post.
High Contrast Shapes and Colors Book
When babies are born, they see muted colors. But, as the first few weeks and months pass, they can see in color and see more clearly. This soft baby book will keep your little one entertained for hours with its vibrant colors and fun activities.
Soft Fabric Building Blocks
Even at 16 months today, Everett just loves these soft blocks. A set of four may seem small. But the combinations you can create with the different sides are endless. The bright red heart is Everett’s favorite! He’ll reach for it every time. If you want slightly more, we also love this set of 9 with the alphabet.
Mushie Stacking Cups
There are many versions of stacking cups out there, but this set from Mushie is a top seller for a reason. The quality is incredible and they’re easy to clean. Best of all, they’re good from ages 0 to 3. When they’re super little, you’ll set them up and baby will knock them over. As they get older, they’ll clap them together to make music. Then, finally they’ll learn how to stack them (such a proud moment!).
Evenflo Exersaucer Jam Session Jumping Activity Center
Oh, the joy that this bouncer brought to our baby. I think it was his first day at daycare that they sent home a picture of Ev in this fun toy. We knew in that moment that we needed one for the house. A quick search on Amazon will bring up a bunch and we just love the music this one plays. It’s on the pricier side for a baby toy, but it’s also one where if you need to walk into the kitchen or just give your arms a break, it provides some good relief. They’ll love playing in this for long spurts of time.
Itzy Ritzy Linking Rings Set
When you’re on the go, you’ll want a few toys you can cart around that are small and lightweight. These colorful linking rings are perfect for that and great for teething babies too. Since they come apart they’re also easy to attach to things too, like a stroller.
Jungly Tails Crinkle and Cloth Book
“Grab the Jungly Tails book!” That’s what I yell to Matt when we’re heading out the door and need to grab a few things to keep Everett busy (at a restaurant, my parent’s house, etc.). Babies always seem to love animals. Then, these different tails – some made of felt and some furry – are guaranteed to make your baby laugh.
Skip Hop x pbk Dreamy Skies Activity gym
Just like the kick and play piano which works baby’s dexterity, an activity gym is a must for the early months when you’re working on tummy time and depth perception. There are so many great ones out there. We put this one from Pottery Barn on our registry because I just love the muted colors and the soft texture on the mat. There are five multi-sensory toys. The two closest to the bottom are rattles. One higher up has a mirror and the other is a crinkle toy for sound. Then, the mat itself is sherpa.
Like I said above, the options for baby toys are never-ending. They don’t need a lot. But, a few will help you teach them to play independently and to help their development in the early stages.
